Our Beginnings
DMS Group was founded in 1977 with the establishment of Data Management Systems Ltd., aiming to leverage advancements in computer hardware and locally developed software to address business challenges in Sri Lanka. DMS Electronics (Pvt) Ltd. (DMSE) began partnering with commodore business machines, the company catered to the growing demand for microcomputers, and addressed the lack of ICT education through training initiatives.
Strategic Partnerships
In 1983, DMSE partnered with Wang Laboratories Inc. for personal computers and LAN equipment distribution and later collaborated with Memorex Telex, a leading IBM plug-compatible manufacturer. Adapting to market shifts, the company aligned with Compaq Inc. in 1995, strengthening its presence in the corporate sector. The subsequent acquisition of Compaq by HP expanded DMSE’s portfolio, cementing its leadership in Sri Lanka’s corporate technology market.
Diversification and Growth
DMSE broadened its scope in the mid-1990s through partnerships with 3Com for data communication and networking and Hypercom for transaction processing. These ventures enabled the company to become a full-fledged systems integrator. Today, DMSE specializes in cutting-edge technologies such as virtualization, data centers, cloud computing, and big data, while maintaining a strong presence in payment systems and transaction technologies in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
